Among the unique features of the island of Andros is the fact that opposite to what is common in the other Cyclades the port is not also the capital – known typically as Chora. In reality, the port of Andros, Gavrio, is about 35 km away from Chora at the west part of the island and it is a separate town. Chora is in the northeast part of the island and in the past served also as the port of the island. Between Gavrio and Chora there is a third town, Batsi, known for its summer vibes. Last but not least Korthi is the fourth town established in the southern part of the island. This geographic separation is also related to the origins of Andros populations. We will talk about this topic in another post.
