There are two possible explanations for the name Andros. The first is related to gods. Anios, son of Apollo, was king in the island of Delos. He had two sons: Andros and Mykonos who became kings of the respective islands. The second explanation contributes the name Andros to the general Andros who came from Crete to the island during Minoans ruling.
Andros is mentioned for the first time in written in Aisxylos’ tragedy “Perses”.
